How Petition Recipients Work

Learn how to create a targeted or symbolic New/Mode Petition

Creating a New/Mode Petition allows you to send signatures to the recipients in two ways.

Contactable Recipient

Contactable recipients are petitions that generate emails to the selected decision maker. A contactable recipient can be selected from the New/Mode recipient datasets. Simply type the name of the person you want to contact to search our database. Contactable recipients will be sent an email containing a list of signatures every 100 petition signers.

Recipient Name Only

You may want to start a symbolic petition that encourages people to sign, but does not send emails to a recipient. Petitions like this are used to engage supporters and raise awareness about an issue, with the signatures sometimes being delivered in print at the end of the campaign. To create a petition with no recipients, enter a name in the box "Add recipient name only". This will ensure no target is emailed.
