SMS Shortcode Regulatory Changes (US)

An SMS Shortcode is the five digit phone number you text SMS Keywords to. For example:

Text "JUSTICE" to 67076

  • "JUSTICE" is the SMS Keyword.
  • "67076" is the SMS Shortcode.

As of March 1st, 2021, communications carriers in the United States will no longer support organizations sharing a shortcode. Each organization must have a unique shortcode.

Since New/Mode owns 67076, 67076 may only be used by campaigns run specifically by New/Mode. This means that any partner running campaigns using the New/Mode SMS Chatbot option must own their own shortcode.

In the interim, as of March 1st, we will be pointing all SMS Chatbot keywords to a ten-digit phone number.

In the long term we will be offering two options:

  1. Leasing a new shortcode from New/Mode, for exclusive use by your organization
  2. Porting an existing shortcode from your organization to the New/Mode platform

We'll be sending out updates as we finalize these options. In the meantime, please reach out to our support team if you have any questions:
